OSWEGO, NY –Plans are
underway for the 10th Annual Literacy Volunteers of Oswego County
(LVOC) Golf Tournament being held on Thursday, Aug. 21 at Glenwood Golf Course,
West Monroe. There will be four golfers per team with a shotgun start at 9:00
a.m. The tournament is using an 18-hole Captain and Crew format.
Proceeds from
the tournament help LVOC provide adults in Oswego County, aged 16 years or
older, with basic literacy programs. The ability to read is one of the most
important skills needed in daily life but it is often taken for granted. There
are almost 20,000 people in Oswego County that struggle to read. The goal of
LVOC is to provide opportunities for these adults to achieve personal freedom by
building basic reading, writing and technology skills at no cost in a
confidential environment.
“By supporting this
tournament, participants will help us reach the people in our county who need
help and make reading as routine as hitting a golf ball,” said Jane Murphy,
Executive Director.
