The Oswego Speedway was built in 1951 when original owners Harry, George and William Caruso converted the one time Wine Creek Horse Track into a 3/8 mile dirt auto racing facility. The track was paved during 1952 and remained a 3/8 mile track until 1961 when it was enlarged to its current 5/8 mile size. The track was sold in April of 2004 to former speedway supermodified driver, Track and Classic Champion, Steve Gioia Jr. and Pat Furlong, Sr. whose son Greg has won Championships at the speedway. It is mentioned in racing circles that the Oswego Speedway is the “Indy of the East” as no fewer than a dozen of our past and present competitors have competed at the famed “Brickyard” including two-time Indy 500 winner Gordon Johncock, along with former Budweiser International Classic winners Bentley Warren, Joe Gosek and Davey Hamilton.

The unique configuration of sweeping turns and a wide racing surface make two and three-abreast racing a common sight at Oswego. Steel grandstands line both the front and the back of the race track. Complete spectator capacity is in excess of 15,000 people. The third and fourth turns of the original 3/8 mile track were re-paved during the summer of 2004 and now give the track two unique configurations to host a variety of different race cars. The property and facility are always being considered for events other than just automobile racing. The Oswego Speedway often is approached by promoters interested in bringing concerts, snocross and motocross events here to the speedway. With nearly one hundred acres including parking, the speedway can play host to civic festivals, circuses and walk / jog / bike-a-thons for charitable causes.

Modern, clean concession stands with over 200 feet of counter space serve a full line of fast foods. Most of the front grandstand is covered and features a safety fence to prevent debris from getting into the stands. There are closed-circuit monitors in the front grandstand area for viewing racing action and replays. The re is a “Family” section which is alcohol free and a dedicated handicapped entrance and viewing area. The grandstands and infield are patrolled by speedway safety personnel. There is a modern public address system which is complimented by a low frequency broadcast signal that allows fans to hear the announcers at 540 AM on a radio headset anywhere on the speedway grounds. Oswego Speedway’s clean, safe and modern facility makes it a place where the whole family can come and enjoy an evening of quality entertainment.
