A part of the SUNY Oswego campus and located just west of the city of Oswego, Rice Creek Field Station is open year round during daylight hours and offers three trails for hiking, snow shoeing, and cross-country skiing.
Each trail offers a different glimpse of the vegetation and land features characteristic of the Lake Ontario coastal plain. While trekking through the paths take a peek at one of the many northern song birds that call Rice Creek their home or spot a beaver about its business preparing for another cold season ahead.
The herbarium at the field station consists collections representing a cross section of fish, amphibian, reptile and insect collections as well as many different types of plants recorded from the field station properties.
Different programs are available on a quarterly basis and range from Exploring Nature programs for children during the summer months to Nature Education workshops and events for adults.
